Jack Balfour
My name is Jack Balfour, I am a maker and pragmatic problem-solver who creates refined objects of beauty and function. As a material based designer, sculptor and potter I would describe myself as inquisitive, determined, organised and open-minded. A passion for making has driven the pursuit of refined surfaces celebrated through materials.
Project Description:
The Creswick project follows a material investigation through the field of ceramics exploring the notions of circular economy and discarded materials. With a focused objective to transform ceramic waste into personal objects of attachment and beauty. Utilising three material streams to create functional objects that can be made and remade contributing to the next series of objects. A collection of ceramic whisky tumblers formed from different material streams capture the inherent qualities that each source contains. A warm speckled iron surface was generated through the reclaiming of wild clay sourced from a construction site in Creswick street.
