The Aesthetics of Sleep proposes a ritualistic spatial experience to examine the issues of primary insomnia through inducing an altered state of consciousness. The project will critique society’s ongoing tension with sleep and the consequences of obsessing towards a ‘norm’ slumber through a satirical nature.
The project explores ideas of perception through observing current use of medication and how this may evidence the tendency of humans to be dependent on tangible objects to control their cognition.
The project is situated at the abandoned Footscray Psychiatric Centre. The project aims to subvert the clinical nature of the site through the non-traditional, ritualistic approach.
