This practice explores cultural dislocation and reconnection through research, experimental writing and performance. Drawing from the ideas of Thirdspace from Homi K. Bhabha and Edward Soja, as well as Peggy Phelan’s ephemeral re-presentation, these concepts translate themselves through a process of learning Baybayin, and writing as performance. This body of work examines the diasporic identity as it must navigate through gender expectations, cultural disconnect, language barriers and geographical displacement; as well as all the emotional trauma it must bear. These works are a constant process of reforming connection, often embodying itself within ‘inbetweeness’ and the ephemera, to understand and reconcile what it means to be in two places at once; and to hopefully open up a new way of being, and of being seen.
