Naturally dyed fabric carrying the colourful remnants of waste materials is suspended from multiple points of the ceiling by thin cotton thread. The artwork is growing, as the dye’s pigments ascend the fabric’s creased form, marking the gradual passing of time.
The artist positions her work within a wider movement of environmentally sustainable art practice. The artist has avoided the use of new materials, and instead has used found or second-hand objects exclusively. The dyes are comprised of tank water, rusted metal and ash combined with plant matter resulting from food waste, including: avocado seeds and onion skins.
