Maddie Turnbull
Maddie’s practice explores the tension between the two traditionally opposed mediums of photography and painting. Utilizing processes involved in analogue photography, Maddie embraces and explores the surprises and encounters that arise when working with chemicals in a darkroom.
Maddie works intuitively, combining elements of abstract expressionism and material exploration to create opportunities for spontaneity and chance to arise in the works that challenge our cultural and historical expectations for photographs to narrate and document. The possibilities are endlessly varied and cannot be replicated or reproduced through analogue processes.
