Peiyuan Dong, offcuts awards
“What you consider as waste can be a resource” — Orsola de Castro
Fabric manufacturing waste is a big problem in the fashion industry. 400 billion square meters of garments will be produced for the clothing industry in 2015 and of which 60 billion square meters of fabric may be wasted in the making process. Fashion generates 4% of the world’s waste each year, 92 million tons, which is more than toxic e-waste. A lot of that comes from off-cuts from the production process. But completely eradicating any form of waste is impossible. The aim of this project is to make fashion sustainable by providing a solution to encourage fashion student to reuse fabric manufacturing waste.
Peiyuan Dong, offcuts awards log in system, introduce to the awards, and application guide
Reuse offcuts materials before they get recycled is able to reduce energy discharge. The fashion created by designers has inadvertently caused fashion waste, so designers need to play an important role in reducing or eliminating fashion waste. Design clothes by using offcuts materials can be the new fashion.
Carrying the aim of the capstone project is to make fashion sustainable by providing a solution to encourage fashion student to reuse fabric manufacturing waste.
