Saving the night sky - Campaign of light pollution
There are so many ways of pollution on our earth, but light pollution may be the least talked about. Light pollution is the over-illumination of cities and night skies by artificial lighting. It's caused by abundance of light sources emitting light outside of an intended direction.
For most of Earth’s history, our spectacular universe of stars and galaxies has been visible in the darkness of the night sky. From our earliest beginnings, the vast spectacle across the dark sky has inspired questions about our universe and our relationship to it.
It's estimated that as many as 80% of all the people on earth today have never had the chance to witness a clear view of the Milky Way. What do we lose when we lose sight of the stars? Excessive and improper lighting took away our night skies, disrupts our sleep patterns, and endangers wildlife nocturnal habitats.
Light pollution is unique because it’s the only kind of pollution we can clean up instantly. Polluted water and air take decades to cleanse them of human impacts, but cleaning up the night skies is easy, Just turn out the light.
