Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu
Over the past two years, I've garnered experience in UI/UX design working as a freelancer, contractor, and participating in start-up projects. I have a knack for offering excellent solutions tailored to client needs.
I strongly believe that human-centered design is the pivotal idea of contemporary UI/UX design. Simultaneously, I hold the view that UI/UX design isn't solely about problem-solving for humans, but also about creating value for individuals through understanding their problem spaces and needs.

Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, M-Career Portal
M-Career Portal is the graduation project for my postgraduate client. Within the team, my main responsibilities include conducting UX research interviews and UI design work. M-Career Portal is a "One For All" platform specifically designed for Monash University students to facilitate job searching and career development activities. The platform integrates the existing job search platform of Monash Career Connect and aims to provide students with an enhanced user experience throughout the job seeking process.
Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, TeamFit
TeamFit is a home fitness app designed specifically for Melbourne in the context of COVID-19 lockdown. The app primarily utilizes a game-like mechanism of inviting friends to participate in challenges and a unique local leaderboard to motivate users to invite their friends and form fitness teams. The design focuses on researching and analysing the rewarding system, as well as understanding the mental models of individuals living in Melbourne during the COVID-19 lockdown, with the aim of finding more effective ways to motivate them to exercise at home. This assignment received a high distinction (HD) grade.
Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, AirWare
AirWare is a client project I worked on during my first year of postgraduate studies. Our team's client was Sensilab at Monash University. In this project, I held the position of a UI designer. The design was specifically for a computer-based control web-based application for the AirStick (The AirSticks merge drumming's physicality with the boundless potential of computer music, revolutionizing real-time electronic music performance.). The application's design primarily focused on being user-friendly for new users, providing tutorials and preset content to enhance their experience. This assignment received a high distinction (HD) grade.
Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, Less Is More
"Less Is More" is a UI re-design project I worked on during my postgraduate studies. I focused on re-designing the UI for another project of mine, TeamFit. By adopting the minimalist approach of the Bauhaus style and incorporating geometric shape patterns, I completely redesigned the entire UI. With guidance and encouragement from my tutor, Dr. Indae Hwang, I successfully accomplished my first bold attempt at UI design in my life. This assignment received a high distinction (HD) grade.
Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, Food Ordering App for G2 Korean BBQ
This food ordering app was my first UI design project during my postgraduate studies. For this project, I chose G2, my favorite Korean BBQ restaurant in Melbourne for the past six years, as my client. During the UX research phase, I discovered that although they had a beautifully designed official website, they did not have their own mobile food ordering app. To address this pain point, I designed an app for them with a primary colour scheme centered around the colour yellow. This assignment received a high distinction (HD) grade.
Chengzhi (Daniel) Yu, Umbrella
Umbrella was my graduation design project during my undergraduate studies at Monash. The project aimed to propose a constructive solution to the issue of cyberbullying in the online space. Through UX research, it was discovered that the phenomenon of cyberbullying involves not only the bully and the victim but also a crucial role known as the bystander. It is the presence of bystanders that often leads to the victim experiencing secondary harm. Therefore, the app primarily focuses on encouraging and establishing a reward system to motivate bystanders to speak up for the victims on social media platforms. This assignment received a grade of D.
