With the growth of overseas population in Melbourne, Coles, as one of Australia's largest retailers, has expanded their self-service checkout services to meet the increasing customer demand. Therefore, understanding the user behavior and addressing emerging issues has become a challenge.
This project was to investigate how international people used the self-service checkout at Coles in Glen Waverley, and created a visualized report that analyzed and summarized the findings to draw a re-design proposal for improvements.

An optimized the user experience and a redesigned interface were created in the form of a high fidelity prototype based on the previous anthropological research. This was for providing a simplified the operation process, and a clean and concise interface that intuitively conveyed information visually by presenting the instruction of simplified "start - scan - pay" operation steps.
