Amal Alsulami, Designing a Personal Dashboard in Neobrutalism
Last semester, I was tasked with designing a personal dashboard using data from my daily routines. The twist? We had to randomly select a design style. As someone who loves minimalism, I hoped for something clean and simple. But I drew Neobrutalism—a style I didn’t connect with. At first, I was lost, but I decided to lean into its bold, raw aesthetic. The result was a striking, functional dashboard that embraced contrast and structure. This challenge pushed me to explore beyond my comfort zone and taught me to appreciate unconventional design for its impact and uniqueness.
Amal Alsulami, Turning Daily Water Intake into a Fun Adventure
An interactive hydration tracker, inspired by the classic Snakes and Ladders board game, created for my Interaction Design Studio 2 course!
I was assigned to reimagine one of my previous designs with a creative twist, and I decided to turn daily water intake into a fun, engaging experience—especially for younger users. The app encourages users to track their water intake by earning points, climbing hydration goals, and unlocking rewards.
Amal Alsulami, Pattern Play- Exploring Islamic Geometry
This project began with an ethnographic observation at the State Library Victoria, where school students were seen walking through exhibitions without engaging in meaningful or interactive learning. In response, the project proposes Pattern Play—a multi-sensory, educational installation that introduces Islamic geometric design to children. Through hands-on activities and creative technologies, it transforms passive viewing into playful exploration, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and cultural appreciation.
