Bunuo(Ellen) Zhu
My work sits between physical and digital experiences, exploring how people interact with spaces, interfaces, and the environments around them. I am particularly interested in the relationship between design, emotion, and everyday experience.
Through research, experimentation, and iterative design processes, I aim to create thoughtful and engaging outcomes that balance functionality, aesthetics, and human connection.

Bunuo(Ellen) Zhu, Moments of Light — Exhibition & Museum Commerce App
Moments of Light is a mobile exhibition and e-commerce experience designed around Impressionist artworks and the theme of light. The app combines artist discovery, artwork exploration, personalised gift selection, and purchasing into a seamless journey. Inspired by editorial design and museum environments, the visual system uses refined typography, warm colour palettes, and immersive Light/Dark modes to create a calm and atmospheric viewing experience.
Bunuo(Ellen) Zhu, PomoBrick — Gamified Focus App
PomoBrick is a mobile focus app that transforms Pomodoro sessions into a rewarding building experience. Instead of simply tracking productivity, users earn virtual bricks after each completed session and use them to construct their own castle. The project explores how gamification, visual feedback, and user-controlled rewards can increase motivation, engagement, and long-term focus habits.
Bunuo(Ellen) Zhu, Lamp as Time — Spatial Narrative Interior Design
Lamp as Time is a conceptual interior project that translates memories and life stages into spatial experiences. Inspired by the emotional qualities of light, the project explores how architecture can communicate personal narratives through sequence, atmosphere, materiality, and movement. Through a series of interconnected spaces, visitors experience a journey where light becomes both a functional element and a storytelling medium, transforming memory into a physical environment.
Bunuo(Ellen) Zhu, Patina — Experimental Film
Patina is an experimental short film exploring how time becomes visible through material surfaces. The film observes rust, weathered concrete, fallen leaves, cracks, and traces of decay, using static cinematography to reveal the quiet transformation of ordinary environments.
Rather than telling a linear story, Patina focuses on atmosphere, rhythm, and material memory. Through close-up details, natural textures, and restrained editing, the project reflects on how everyday spaces silently record ageing, erosion, and the passage of time.
