Research study: Low FODMAP Australian breakfast cereal for IBS sufferers

Development of a Low FODMAP Australian Breakfast Cereal that should be well tolerated by individuals with Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Please note that as of 14 August 2014, this trial is not recruiting participants.
Participants sought
Volunteers are required to assist in the development of a new breakfast cereal product that should be suitable for people with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
IBS is a common gastrointestinal disorder, affecting up to 15% of Australians. Recent research advances have provided us with a dietary therapy to reduce the symptoms of IBS, termed the low FODMAP diet. FODMAPs are present in a wide variety of foods, including many cereal and grain products. As such, breakfast cereals can often contribute to gut symptoms associated with IBS (including abdominal pain, bloating, excessive wind and changes in bowel habit). Unfortunately, there are currently few suitable low FODMAP breakfast cereals available to recommend to people with IBS.
We are looking for participants who have been diagnosed with IBS. You may be suitable to take part in this research project if you:
- Are aged 18-75 years;
- Do not have any other gastrointestinal disease (e.g. Coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, Ulcerative Colitis);
- Are living in or around Melbourne, Australia.
Information will be collected from participants in the form of bowel symptom questionnaires and hydrogen breath tests.
