2022 at the Archives
After two years of lockdowns and working from home, the Monash University Archives team were back in the office for a big year in 2022. We received and processed a number of significant accessions and worked on many exciting projects throughout the year. Read on for a summary of our activities in 2022.
Accessions
This year we had significant accessions from:
- Frank Upward - Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in the Department of Librarianship, Archives and Records (later the School of Information Management and Systems) (1988-2006), archivist, educator, recordkeeping theorist, and founding member of Monash University’s recordkeeping teaching and research program.
- Sue McKemmish – Emeritus Professor (2021-current), Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor, Department of Librarianship, Archives and Records (later School of Information Management and Systems) (1990-2004)
- Ann Mitchell – Manager of Records and Archives Services and University Archivist, 1988-2003.
- Wallace Kirsop – Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in Romance Languages, 1962-1998.
- We also received an accession of photographs of Clayton campus from a Monash alumnus from the 1960s. Check out our Twitter and Instagram posts to see some of these wonderful photos.
Projects
We also undertook many exciting projects:
- Previously unidentified film reels and video tapes were identified and reboxed
- Digitisation of 43 reels of film, with a further 65 reels currently offsite for digitisation
- 26 videos have been published on our new YouTube channel, including digitised film footage and audio recordings, with more to come in 2023
- Conversion of cassette tapes to mp3 and noise reduction of mp3 files was completed.
- Monash University Annual Reports (1961-2000) were digitised and published online
- Chisholm Institute of Technology Annual Reports (1982-1989) were digitised and published online
- Select handbooks from Monash University, Caulfield Institute of Technology, Chisholm Institute of Technology, Gippsland Institute of Advanced Education, State College of Victoria Frankston, and Victorian College of Pharmacy were digitised and published online
- Digitisation of Monash University Council minutes
- Our new social media channels were launched in February and can be followed to get a glimpse into our collection and to keep up to date with Archives activities – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
- A Collection Development Plan has been drafted and will be made public in 2023
