Associate Professor Clifford Connell

With more than 38 years of nursing experience, Associate Professor Cliff Connell has spent the last 25 years as an emergency nurse, emergency clinical nurse educator, university lecturer and researcher. A Fellow of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia, he is currently the Deputy Director of Graduate Research at Monash University’s School of Nursing and Midwifery and a Monash Health Emergency postdoctoral research fellow.

A passionate educator, Associate Professor Connell has supported thousands of undergraduate and postgraduate nursing and midwifery, paramedicine and allied health sciences students to achieve their professional goals through evidence-based teaching and learning. Associate Professor Connell’s current teaching focusses on supporting postgraduate emergency nurses to provide the highest quality emergency critical care across several states in Australia.

Associate Professor Connell’s research aims to improve the safety and quality of care for emergency department patients. He supervises several master’s, honours and PhD students. He is also passionate about creating opportunities for clinicians with no research experience to investigate practical patient quality and safety issues.

Associate Professor Connell leads the Team Emergency Assessment Measure (TEAM), a valid, reliable and feasible measure of teamwork during resuscitation. A Monash Health Emergency Research Fellow, he is also an active and engaged member of several national and international nursing associations, including the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) National Research Committee; CENA (Victorian branch) Committee; the Australian Resuscitation Council (Victorian branch) Committee and Monash Emergency Research Collaborative (MERC).

Associate Professor Connell is also an international advisory board member of the highly ranked emergency care journal – International Emergency Nursing and host of the emergency care podcast This Emergency Life.
