My name is Faye and I'm the President of Monash University Alumni Singapore (MUAS).
My passion for contributing to communities started when I was at Monash, leading the Singapore Association of Monash as Events Director and President. I've been involved with MUAS since I graduated in 2018, and have been growing our community here in sunny Singapore through events such as Australia Day, Trivia Nights, Charity initiatives, and more.
There's no better time to get engaged with your Monash family here in Singapore.
Keep track of upcoming events and initiatives through our alumni Facebook page or LinkedIn group, join us at our next event to meet like-minded individuals, and even volunteer your time and experience with the committee. If you have any questions about the Singapore network, feel free to get in touch via email or Facebook. We can't wait to connect with you!

What was the highlight of your Monash experience?
The whole experience was the highlight of my early twenties! Meeting new people, living an independent life and building a community of like-minded Singaporeans at Singapore Association of Monash (SAM) where I served as President of the society.
If you could give your graduate self one piece of career advice, what would it be and why?
To play up your experience of studying and living abroad - more and more employers are looking for well-travelled and open-minded hires, especially in the creative industries.
Why did you choose to join the MUAS committee?
It was a natural next step for me after graduation, to keep in touch with fellow Singaporeans who have shared the same experiences as me. I wanted to continue to serve the community and bring old and new alumni together through our events and initiatives.
How has being part of MUAS helped you grow professionally?
As I service clients in various industries, having the opportunity to meet and network with alumni from other fields inspires me to think of creative partnership ideas that could be explored in the future. Some of our alumni have years of experience in their industries and it is always great to hear their thoughts on certain issues/areas and learn from them.
What advice would you give to a recent Monash graduate returning to Singapore, who may be unsure of their next steps?
You're automatically an alumni upon graduation! Follow MUAS on Facebook and LinkedIn to keep track of upcoming events and discover initiatives or activities that interest you. We offer a diverse range of activities, including networking, educational, charity, and nature/wellness - there's really something for everyone! We look forward to welcoming you at our next event.
What was your major/minor?
Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems.
What do you currently do for work?
I’m a Lead Consultant at Network and Security Infrastructure. It’s a system integration company, leveraging artificial intelligence and automation for interactions with the public sector (internal security).
What was the highlight of your Monash experience?
Monash has incorporated exposure to various international cultures as well as a worldwide practical learning experience. This provides a clear understanding that there is never just "one solution" to an issue. In addition to learning, the world is bigger than we imagine, so I've learned to slow down and appreciate nature more.
Why did you choose to join the MUAS committee?
A unique "join for fun" gathering was held by MUAS sometime between 2013 and 2014. I connected with many alumni who offered wise job and life advice. The goal of MUAS perfectly aligns with the knowledge and experiences I have accumulated to this point, and I believe it would be appropriate and responsible to give back to society.
How has being part of MUAS helped you grow professionally?
I believe in networking, particularly for the purpose of obtaining outside views and professional insights from people in related industries that I might not otherwise obtain in my present position.
What advice would you give to a recent Monash graduate returning to Singapore, who may be unsure of their next steps?
Everybody will eventually face uncertainties in their professional or personal endeavours. Be receptive to new experiences.
What was your major/minor?
I had two majors – Business Management and Psychology.
What do you currently do for work?
I am currently a Learning and Development Executive at a boutique leadership consulting firm. I play a key role in coordinating and managing programs/projects for the company, which includes leadership development programs, assessment and development centres.
What was the highlight of your Monash experience?
It was the diversity and learning environment that Monash provides. Monash truly felt like it was a melting pot of cultures, where there were endless opportunities for growth – both from a personal and academic perspective. It just made my Monash experience a lot more unique and fun!
If you could give your graduate self one piece of career advice, what would it be and why?
To have an open mind, be extremely inquisitive, and be ready to explore as many opportunities that come. Do not be afraid of trying and failing because you learn from experiences, and it only gets better from there!
Why did you choose to join the MUAS committee?
My Monash experience was amazing and I truly do cherish and miss my days at Monash. I would like to be able to stay connected and give back to Monash alumni members by being of service.
How has being part of MUAS helped you grow professionally?
Networking and exposure to the various events organised have contributed to my overall general knowledge, event/project management and time management skills.
What are the benefits of being part of MUAS?
Having the opportunity and power to contribute back to the alumni community through initiatives. Creating a familiar bond and feeling of belonging with committee members and alumni when you see regular faces (and new faces too).
What advice would you give to a recent Monash graduate returning to Singapore, who may be unsure of their next steps?
In addition to working on your graduate CV and setting up your LinkedIn profile, remember to tap into your network to get some help and direction from friends, family and the friendly MUAS family.
What was your major/minor?
After completing my Bachelor's degree in Business Management and gaining some work experience, I made the decision to pursue a Master's degree in Actuarial Studies. I was attracted to the challenge of applying mathematical and statistical methods to assess risks, solve real-world problems, and actuarial science seemed to provide an excellent framework for achieving these objectives.
What was the highlight of your Monash experience?
Studying at Monash presented me with an incredible challenge, as I pursued a postgraduate major different from my undergraduate field. Despite the initial challenge, I enjoyed the chosen path. Attending lectures led by a world-renowned faculty, engaging in research projects, and actively participating in multicultural student associations - my journey at Monash was truly transformative.
If you could give your graduate self one piece of career advice, what would it be and why?
Instead of offering career advice to my graduate self, I would simply say, ‘You are doing really well.’ I am proud of myself for being willing to take risks and maintaining a constant thirst for learning. If there is one crucial piece of advice I could share, it would be this: Don't forget to have some fun while you're at it!
Why did you choose to join the MUAS committee?
It's the PEOPLE! They are the reason I find myself continuously interested and motivated to attend alumni events, one after another. I always put my hand up for volunteering, so when they extended an invitation to join the committee, I didn't hesitate to say yes.
Ever since my time at Monash, I've always enjoyed being actively involved in student associations. Despite the responsibilities and commitments of adult life, organising regular small events with various purposes to connect diverse alumni brings a unique kind of joy.
How has being part of MUAS helped you grow professionally?
It has been a rewarding (professional and personal) experience being part of the committee to build something from the ground up and positively contribute to the Monash alumni community in Singapore. MUAS allows me to meet and engage with people from different industries, age groups and cultures, which helps me to see things from a whole new perspective.
What advice would you give to a recent Monash graduate returning to Singapore, who may be unsure of their next steps?
The probability of success is the same as the probability of failure while keeping all other factors constant. So don't let uncertainties keep you from exploring your passions.
Say yes to every opportunity, and don't be afraid to get your hands dirty and work from the ground level. Make full use of the resources MUAS has to offer by attending events and making connections with fellow alumni who may have gone through similar struggles, and can provide you with career advice when needed.
Be curious. Be humble. And be ready to take risks.
