Mrs Melinda Kant
Mrs Melinda Kant is a Nurse Manager at Monash Health and a respected leader in respiratory, thoracic surgery, and high-acuity nursing. With more than 15 years of experience, she is known for her compassionate leadership, her commitment to clinical excellence, and her ability to inspire teams to deliver the highest standard of patient-centred care.
Her career with Monash Health began in 2009 as a graduate nurse, marking the start of a journey defined by dedication, curiosity, and a deep passion for acute care. In 2010, she joined the respiratory ward, where she quickly developed expertise in managing complex patient needs. Mrs Kant gained in-charge experience early in her career and progressed to Clinical Nurse Specialist in 2014, a role that strengthened her clinical leadership and broadened her influence across the ward. In 2022, she became an Associate Nurse Manager, and in 2023, she stepped into her current role as Nurse Manager.
One of her most significant achievements has been leading the opening of the Respiratory, Thoracic Surgery and High Acuity Nursing Ward at Monash Medical Centre. This milestone reflects her vision for integrated, high-quality care and her ability to bring teams together to create meaningful change. In recognition of her impact, Mrs Kant received two of Monash Health’s highest honours in 2025: Exemplary Leader and Nurse of the Year.
Mrs Kant holds a Bachelor of Nursing (2008) and a Master of Advanced Surgical Nursing (2013) from Monash University, qualifications that underpin her clinical expertise and her commitment to evidence-based practice.
Her professional mission is grounded in a simple but powerful belief: patients may not remember what you say, but they will always remember what you do. She approaches each day with the intention of brightening the lives of patients who may be facing their most difficult moments. Equally, she is deeply committed to her team, recognising that exceptional patient care is only possible when nurses feel supported, valued, and empowered.
Known for her energy, authenticity, and hands-on leadership style, Mrs Kant leads by example—never asking her team to do anything she would not do herself. Her passion for people, learning, and compassionate care continues to inspire the next generation of nurses and doctors.
