Mr John Mooney OAM PSM
Mr John Mooney OAM PSM's early teaching experience was in rural primary schools before he took up the inaugural Executive Officer role at The Krongold Centre at Monash in 1976.
He was awarded a Commonwealth Relations Trust Open Fellowship at London University in 1982. On returning to Australia, he has served as Principal of three large Specialist Schools in Frankston, Ashwood and now at Emerson in Dandenong.
John has a long professional association with the Australian Council of Education Leaders, the Australian College of Educators, The Principal’s Association of Specialist Schools, The Victorian Principals’ Association, The British Psychological Society and The Australian Principals Federation.
He is also a member of the Department of Education (DET) Expert Principals Advisory Group (EPAG), a member of The Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Director of The Gorman Foundation. He is a Fellow of The Australian College of Educators and a Fellow of The Council of Educational Leaders (Victoria).
On Australia Day 2014, he was awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for contributions to education and students with disabilities.
In June 2020, Mr Mooney was awarded The Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for contributions to Professional Associations.
In 2021, Mr Mooney was acknowledged by The State of Victoria for his 55 years of continuous service to Education.
Above all, Mr Mooney has a continuing passion and enthusiasm towards the provision of good options and choices for primary and secondary students with disabilities and additional needs across all sectors. He speaks passionately about unlocking the potential and talent that lies within us all.
