Professor Beverley Vollenhoven AM

Professor Beverley Vollenhoven AM is the Carl Wood Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University, the Director of Gynaecology and Research at Monash Health and a senior clinician at Monash IVF.  She is a certified Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist.

She was inducted to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2019 for excellence and inspirational leadership in medicine. In 2021, she was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for contributions to Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a strong advocate for gender equality and women in medicine and science.

Professor Vollenhoven has a long track record of successful research collaborations in the area of IVF and Embryo Implantation, Endometriosis, Uterine Fibroids, PCOS and other ovarian disorders. Her clinical input, both in terms of knowledge and via her patient contact has been considerable and indispensable. Her clinical knowledge has helped support and advise how best to implement basic science findings and her research publications are a strong reflection of this.

She has maintained an active research program, taught undergraduate students in medicine and science, supervised postgraduate students and provided a senior university voice within the hospital. She has been a mentor and role model to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. In her current role as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, she has brought together researchers and clinicians to collaborate more and successfully in current and future research and better inform research translation. The Department is recognised as being the best in Australia and 6th globally, the first non-US based, in the SCImago Institutions ranking.  She has overseen the growth of the Monash Health Gynaecology Unit to be Victoria’s largest and was a key to developing a Public Fertility Service at Monash Health.

Professor Vollenhoven has a proven track record in academic, clinical, and research roles, significantly contributing to medical education and patient care. She is a respected researcher, educator, and clinician with a history of pivotal contributions to women's health.
