Michelle is from regional Victoria and completed her secondary education at Mooroopna High School. She moved to Melbourne and completed a Bachelor of Economics (Accounting) at Monash University graduating in May 1981.

Her career after graduation was firstly in auditing and business consulting with Arthur Andersen for a period of 10 years. During this time, she also became a member of the Australian Institute of Chartered Accountants. Michelle then took a position with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), a global strategy firm and has held several positions across both the Asia–Pacific region and the USA. With BCG she has held roles in the local markets, in the region and in the global organisation. Her various leadership roles include Global Finance Operations Partner, Global Services Office Leader, Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Global HR Partner.

Michelle has travelled extensively with BCG and has worked in the Global Functions Hub in Boston, in Hong Kong during the time of setting up their Asian offices, and in Melbourne. She is currently a Managing Director and Partner at BCG’s Melbourne office and is the Asia–Pacific COO for the global consulting firm. Michelle chairs the Asia–Pacific Senior Director Development Committee, is one of five global ombudspersons and is a member of the Global Operations Leadership Team. She also leads the 1000+ Global Functions delivery hub in New Delhi.

She is a Council member for Federation University and is a member of their Governance and Strategy Committee. She is a Director of Save the Children Australia and chairs their Audit Committee.
