Dr Jane McAloon AM has over 30 years of business, government and regulatory experience at senior executive and board levels across the natural resources, energy, infrastructure and utilities sectors.

Dr McAloon is Chair of EnergyAustralia, incoming Chair of BlueScope and a Non-executive Director of Allianz Australia and Newcrest Mining. She is Chair of the Monash University Foundation, a member of the Monash Law Faculty External Advisory Committee and an independent board member of Allens. She is a former Non-executive Director of United Malt Group, HMC Capital, Viva Energy, GrainCorp, Healthscope and Cogstate, Port of Melbourne and the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. She was previously Chair of Defence Reserves Support Council, a member of the Referendum Council on Constitutional Recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and a former director of the Australian War Memorial and defence veterans’ charity Bravery Trust.

Dr McAloon spent nine years as Group Company Secretary at BHP Billiton under Chairmen Jac Nasser AC and Don Argus AC, including two years on the Group Management Committee as President Governance. Prior to this, Dr McAloon was Group Manager, Regulatory and Public Affairs and Company Secretary at AGL. Dr McAloon has worked in executive leadership roles with the NSW Government Cabinet Office and the Energy, Rail and Natural Resources Departments.

Dr McAloon previously worked as a Ministerial Adviser to the late Honourable Simon Crean, Monash Deputy Chancellor to whom she is grateful for lifting her horizons and life goals. She also worked in private legal practice and as an Economics Tutor at Monash University.

She graduated from Monash University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Economics (Honours) and in 1991 with a Bachelor of Laws and was appointed a Fellow of Monash University in 2018. In the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours list, Dr McAloon was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for “significant service to the business and energy sectors.”

She is married to Dieter and is step mother to Elke and Hanna. Outside of work you can find her at the beach with family dogs and cat, Frankie, Brucie and Lia. Dr McAloon loves learning new things particularly from the enthusiasm and energy of young people making their way through life.
