Professor Julia Morphet
With an extensive and varied career as an emergency nurse and educator spanning more than 15 years, Julia joined Monash University, Nursing and Midwifery in 2010 and held several senior leadership roles including Director of Education and Deputy Head of School before becoming Head of School in January 2023.
Recognised for her leadership in 2021, through her award of the Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing - the highest honour of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia, bestowed upon an emergency nurse who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the leadership of the profession and discipline of emergency nursing – Julia is also the Immediate Past President of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA).
As part of both her personal, and Monash Nursing and Midwifery’s commitment to strengthening practice using evidence-based and industry and consumer informed links, Julia continues to work closely with industry partners, both at health service and government levels, promoting safe quality care for patients and staff. Julia has also been a member of several Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care working groups, and the National Clinical Evidence Taskforce Steering Committee, influencing policy direction for emergency care.
Julia’s research is focused on health workforce preparation, and the patient experience in the emergency department, integrating her expertise in emergency care and in education and she has had more than 100 research papers published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as supervising more than 25 research students to completion.
Julia continues to teach in the emergency nursing program explaining “The particular focus on healthcare because of recent global events ensures that my role as Head of one of the largest schools for the education of nurses and midwives in Australia continues to be an exciting and stimulating one. Our students and staff have risen to the challenge of leading change, through the vibrancy and currency of our research programs that continue to inform the content of our undergraduate and graduate courses which I am proud and excited to remain an active contributor to.”
