Dr Angela Jackson
Dr Angela Jackson is the Commissioner (Social Policy) at the Productivity Commission of the Australian Government and was appointed in April 2025. The Commission provides independent research and advice to the government on economic, social and environmental issues affecting the welfare of Australians.
Starting her career as an economist at the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Dr Jackson has worked across tax, fiscal and social policy. As the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Australian Finance Minister during the Global Financial Crisis, Dr Jackson was responsible for providing policy advice across fiscal policy and all areas of social policy, including National Health Reform. Working as an economic consultant, she has authored a number of high-profile reports on health, aged care, disability, housing and gender policy.
Dr Jackson has previously served on a number of government bodies including as a Commissioner at the Commonwealth Grants Commission; a member of the Economic Inclusion Advisory Committee and a Board Member at Melbourne Health. In 2023 Dr Jackson was appointed to the independent panel reviewing the Commonwealth Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr Jackson is the current National Chair of the Women in Economics Network, and is an adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Tasmania.
Dr Jackson holds a Masters in International Health Policy (Health Economics) with Distinction from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a Doctor of Philosophy on the Economics of Disability in Australia from Monash University.
She has published articles in peer reviewed journals and major Australian newspapers. Dr Jackson is currently working on the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Agreement review and Delivering quality care more efficiently inquiries.
