Dr Teo Ming Kian
Teo Ming Kian, a Singaporean, graduated from Monash University in 1975 with a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) degree in Mechanical Engineering, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986 with a Master of Science in Management. He was the recipient of a Monash Distinguished Alumni Award in 2000. He is a Fellow of the Singapore Academy of Engineering.
For his career up until 2011, Mr Teo served in the Singapore Government in various appointments including as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Finance and in the Prime Minister's Office for National Research and Development. He also served as Executive Chairman of the National Science and Technology Board and the Economic Development Board.
He had also sat on the board of Government agencies as member of the National Computer Board, the Port of Singapore Authority, the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the National Research Foundation; and as Chairman of Telecommunications Authority of Singapore, Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority, and Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore. He had also served as Chairman of Mediacorp, the national broadcaster and the Earth Observatory of Singapore, a research centre focused on geohazards in the Nanyang Technology University, Director of the INSEAD Board, and the Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellowship Board.
Currently, Mr Teo is Chairman of Vertex Venture Holdings Ltd, a venture capital firm; Chairman of Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory Ltd, a research institution focusing on food security, environmental sustainability and community well-being; Chairman of Temasek Foundation Liveability that supports innovation to enhance liveability of cities and sustainability of our planet; Deputy Chairman of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, a Singapore-based global technology, defence, and engineering group, and a Board Director at Temasek Holdings Ltd, an investment holding company owned by the Singapore Government. He also sits on the boards of a few technology start-ups.
Concurrently, Mr Teo is a Director on the board of Temasek Trust Ltd, a steward of philanthropic endowments and gifts to provide sustainable funding for work towards the long-term well-being and security of communities, as well as Temasek Foundation Ltd which supports innovative solutions and advances capabilities to uplift lives, foster international networks and build a sustainable world for generations to come. He also serves on the advisory board of World Intellectual Property Organisation’s Global Innovation Index.
Mr Teo was conferred the Singapore Public Administration Medal (Gold) in 1993, the Commander 1st Class Royal Order of the Polar Star (Sweden) in 1994, the Meritorious Service Medal in 2008 and the Defence Technology Medal (Distinguished Leadership) in 2015.
