Elizabeth Moroney

Elizabeth studied a Bachelor of Primary Education/Bachelor of Visual Arts at Monash University and graduated in 2013.

Elizabeth began her teaching career at a small, innovative school in Dandenong North called Wooranna Park Primary School and is still working there. She has a keen passion for student agency, challenging pedagogical practice, trauma and wellbeing, the impacts this has on education and building positive relationships with students and families.

In 2011, during a years break in her studies, Elizabeth created a not-for-profit education initiative in a small village in Tanzania called Mto Wa Mbu, where she lived and taught. They currently run a Community Learning Centre in the village, offering free educations programs to the community according to their needs and interests.

Elizabeth has a strong vision for this project to continue to create space for powerful, exciting education in the future, with equal opportunities for all. For her work with The Mto Wa Mbu Project, Elizabeth was a finalist as one of the Women’s Weekly “Women of the Future” and was named as 1 of 100 Influential Women in the Financial Reviews Women of Influence awards.
