Ms Jane Hill

Ms Jane Hill has never shied away from a challenge: her goal is to improve the lives of women with ovarian cancer in Australia and around the world.

Ms Hill is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Ovarian Cancer Australia, the national patient advocacy organisation taking action for Australians affected by ovarian cancer. Ovarian cancer is the deadliest women’s cancer, with a five-year survival rate of just 46% far lower than breast cancer, which sits at over 90%. Ms Hill also works at a global level as a non-Executive Director of the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition.

She is determined to change the story of ovarian cancer and bring it to the forefront of attention in Australia and globally. Some might consider this task too daunting but Ms Hill’s drive runs deep, drawing on strength from her upbringing on a country property near Bendigo:

“From an early age I was given lots of responsibility. When I was eight, Dad gave me about 400 cows and calves to drive 10 kilometres along a road. All I had was a sheep dog and my pony, but I was determined to get the job done – my family were so proud of me that I took on the responsibility and completed it. That spirit has always been with me.”

Earlier in her career, Ms Hill headed up the Fight Cancer Foundation for five years (2001 to 2006), a charity dedicated to saving the lives of patients with blood cancers during which she developed and managed the organisation’s first patient accommodation complex in North Melbourne, was active in developing cord blood public banking in Australia and established the Back on Track educational program to support young cancer patients who experience interruptions in their schooling.

Ms Hill is currently Co-Chair of the Australian Patient Advocacy Alliance (APAA) bringing together 22 peak organisations representing more than 15 million Australians with the goal to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians living with chronic disease. She also is a Member of the Federal Expert Advisory Committee for Australia’s Preventative Health Strategy 2021 to 2030.

Ms Hill looks back fondly at her early university days at Monash University, initially studying Arts and Law, then completing a marketing graduate diploma and Master of Business Administration at Monash University. “I could never have achieved what I have without the confidence, knowledge and network I got from my studies at Monash University. I am privileged to have been given the opportunity to use my education to do good.”
