Genevieve Overell AM FAICD

Ms Genevieve Overell AM is an independent non-executive director on a broad-ranging portfolio of private and public sector Boards.
Currently Chair of Victorian Opera and the Australian Institute of Architects, Ms Overell also chairs the Victorian Government’s State Revenue Office Audit Committee and is Deputy National Chair of the Australian British Chamber of Commerce.
Until October 2019, Ms Overell was a member of the senior executive team at Deutsche Bank AG Australia as Head of Government Advisory.
Leading Deutsche Bank’s engagement with Commonwealth and State governments, Australia’s G20 Presidency, peak industry bodies and regulators, Ms Overell advised on public sector asset privatisations, financial sector policy reform and the regulation of foreign direct investments.
Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Ms Overell was appointed Deputy Secretary in the Victorian Government, first leading Built Environment policy and implementation at the Department of Sustainability and Environment, culminating in her appointment as Head of Environment Recovery at Victoria’s Bushfire Reconstruction and Recovery Authority, after the Black Saturday Fires in 2009. During this appointment, she chaired a multi-tiered government committee to lead project coordination for one of the most impacted Victorian communities.
Before her government appointments, Ms Overell, an Accredited Property Law Specialist, was appointed by KPMG as a Director of its newly formed KPMG Legal business. In 2001, Ms Overell was made a Partner of KPMG, Tax and Legal division. Bringing deep infrastructure transaction expertise, she focussed on Victorian government major projects including the development of Melbourne’s Federation Square and the substantial redevelopment of KPMG’s offices at 147 Collins Street, Melbourne.
A frequent guest speaker at property and legal conferences, an author of legal articles for commercial and industry publications, Ms Overell served on Boards, Committees and as Honorary Counsel across the legal profession and property industry. Appointed by then Victorian Government Minister for Planning, Ms Overell served on successive law reform committees contributing extensive private sector experience.
An avid sponsor and mentor of women across her career, Ms Overell has been a senior mentor for Women in Banking & Finance Australia and Institute of Public Administration of Australia and supports development programs of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and VESKI. She also serves as an independent Non-Executive Director on the Boards of North West Melbourne Primary Healthcare Network; Australian German Chamber of Industry and Commerce; and Cladding Safety Victoria.
Ms Overell has recently joined the Education Committee of the 30% Club to continue her advocacy of the careers of women.
Ms Overell completed her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at Monash University. Later she completed her Graduate Diploma in Financial Management at University of New England and was made an Associate of the then Australian Society of Accountants and has also completed the Company Director Course at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Ms Overell is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Institute of Public Administration of Australia (Victoria). In the 2020 Queen's Birthday Honours, Ms Overell was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in recognition for “significant service to the community through roles with a range of organisations”.
