Andy Griffiths
From a high-school teacher dedicated to instilling his students with a love of reading to a celebrated children's author with a 27-year career, Mr Andy Griffiths is renowned for his bestsellers, including The JUST! and Treehouse series. With over 19 million copies sold globally and his work published in 35 countries, Mr Griffiths has become a household name. His books have New York Times bestsellers and he has received numerous accolades, including the UK’s Sainsbury's Children's Book Award and the Australian Book Industry Awards' 'Book of the Year' for The 52-Storey Treehouse.
Mr Griffiths’ play Just Macbeth, created in collaboration with The Bell Shakespeare Company, was critically acclaimed and nominated for two Helpmann Awards. In 2008, Mr Griffiths and his wife Jill worked on this popular theatrical production. That same year, he became the first Australian author to win six children's choice awards in one year for Just Shocking!
His Treehouse series has sold over 10 million copies, winning 80 children's choice awards and 10 Australian Book Industry Awards. The 65-Storey Treehouse became the fastest-selling Australian book in a decade and was the top-selling book of 2015. The series has also been adapted for the stage, with five books having sold-out seasons at the Sydney Opera House and successful runs in the Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom and the United States.
Mr Griffith’s commitment to literacy advocacy has earned him the Dromkeen Medal in 2015, and he serves as a lifetime ambassador for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation, which provides culturally relevant resources to remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. In 2018, he and his co-writer Terry Denton donated $141,613 to charity from the sale of their short story Terry's Dumb Dot Story. Mr Griffiths continues to inspire children through regular international book tours, book signings, virtual events, and initiatives like the Indigenous Literacy Foundation’s Great Book Swap. Most recently, he launched a new series, Adventures Unlimited, further expanding his contribution to children's literature.
Mr Griffiths holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree from Monash University, a Diploma of Education (English) from Rusden State College and a Graduate Diploma (Fiction & Editing) from Deakin University.
