Mr Daniel Lambert AM

Mr Daniel Lambert AM is a dynamic leader with a passion for innovation, partnerships and developing sustainable water solutions that enable potable supply, resilience in a changing climate and decarbonisation.

An experienced Chair, Non-Executive Director, Chief Executive Officer and Executive, Mr Lambert has undertaken many key industry and professional association roles. These include his current role as the Managing Director of Legacie – a water infrastructure developer focussed on delivering reliable supply for the resources sector through first-of-a-kind ethical partnership models with First Nations communities, industry and government.

Prior to his role at Legacie, Mr Lambert’s executive experience in the water sector has included as Chief Executive Officer of WaterStart Australia, Australasia Water Business Leader at Arup and Executive Manager – Sustainable Infrastructure Solutions at Unitywater. Mr Lambert has helped pioneer and shape new collaborative partnering models for the water sector in Australia including the Sydney Water Partnering for Success program which has delivered the largest capital program for an Australian urban water utility on record.

Recognised as an industry thought leader, Mr Lambert’s contribution to innovation, sustainability and the water sector has been profound. He has worked in over 25 countries and delivered leading first-of-a-kind solutions for recycled water, water resilience and WASH projects. From early on in Mr Lambert’s career, he has been inspired by delivering humanitarian engineering projects including clean water and sanitation in developing countries. Some of his work is featured in a recent article titled ‘Deep impact: Daniel Lambert on the power of engineering for good’ in Engineers Australia’s Create magazine.

Mr Lambert is a proud graduate of a double degree at Monash University, a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours – Civil). He was recognised nationally as the 2021 Sir John Holland Civil Engineer of the Year and the 2022 Professional Environmental Engineer of the Year for Australia by Engineers Australia. Mr Lambert has also been recognised by Engineers Australia as one of ‘Australia’s Most Innovative Engineers’.

He provides industry leadership through multiple roles including as an Adjunct Professor at UNSW, as a Director at Engineers Without Borders Australia and as a Strategic Advisor to the International WaterCentre. Within the Australian Water Association and Engineers Australia, Mr Lambert has contributed deeply to mentoring, thought leadership and international collaboration.

His influence stretches beyond national borders, with advisory roles for the International Water Association, UNSW Global Water Institute and global development initiatives. Mr Lambert is not just a leader in water – he is a catalyst for progress, purpose and people. In 2025 he was recognised on the King’s Birthday Honours List as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for his ‘significant service to engineering and the water sector, and his dedication to professional associations.’
