Kate Galvin

For the past 30 years Kate has worked as a leader and lawyer in financial services based in her beloved hometown of Melbourne Australia.

Kate is currently the CEO of Victorian Funds Management Corporation (VFMC), the public authority responsible for investing for the State of Victoria.  VFMC manages over $73 billion for 30 Victorian public authorities and related organisations.  Kate has the privilege of leading a diverse, extraordinary team striving to deliver market leading, long term returns.

After eight years of commercial legal practice, Kate transitioned to managing, transforming and growing businesses in the finance sector.  Kate has led teams in global and Australian companies across financial advice, wealth, asset management, private, corporate and business banking.  Before joining VFMC Kate was at National Australia Bank where she was responsible for NAB Health, with teams in every State providing banking and financial services across the Health sector.  Prior to banking, Kate held multiple roles with JBWere and Goldman Sachs JBWere including Managing Director JBWere and Executive Director and Partner Goldman Sachs JBWere.

Kate holds Bachelors degrees in Economics and Law from Monash University and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a member of Chief Executive Women.  She has served as a Non- Executive Director on the Boards of Medfin Pty Ltd, Sharegift Australia and the Mercy Health Foundation.   A keen supporter of the arts she was a member of the Monash University of Art Museum (MUMA) Committee from 2014 to 2019 and has been supporting emerging Australian artists for the past 20 years.

From dry beginnings in legal practice, Kate cares deeply about purpose, service and enjoyment in work and life. She is passionate about creating and supporting diverse, high performing teams and was the co-Chair of the Goldman Sachs JBWere Women’s Network and founding Chair of the JBWere Diversity Council. With a long, fulfilling career in investments and markets Kate has spoken extensively and advocates for finance as a career for all. Kate is working to have VFMC be one of Australia’s first gender balanced fund managers with the Official Monetary and Official Institutions recognising VFMC as the globally best performing sovereign wealth fund in the tenth edition of it’s Gender Balance Index Report.  As the leader of a significant investment fund Kate relishes her role as a thoughtful steward of capital and has spoken internationally on the topic of Investing for a Green Future.
