Mr Vladimir Prpich
Mr Vladimir Prpich joined Monash University in 1981 as the Assistant Manager Halls of Residence and progressed to become the inaugural Director of Monash Residential Services (MRS) in 2000. He was appointed as the University’s first Executive Director of the Campus Community Division (CCD) in March 2012. Over his long career, he made numerous significant contributions to enhance campus life, particularly for Monash students.
During his 30 years at MRS, Mr Prpich developed a sector-leading accommodation model: the distinctive service and approach has continuously been in high demand and received high satisfaction scores from residents, earning various accolades along the way. Mr Prpich was successful in securing $75m of Federal and State Government funding under the National Rental Affordability Scheme to build 600 new self-contained studio apartments on the Clayton campus.
Mr Prpich led various initiatives to further students’ sense of belonging such as establishing non-residential colleges at the Clayton, Caulfield and Parkville campuses as well as introducing and conducting the inaugural SummerFest and WinterFest events. Mr Prpich initiated the development and expansion of the University’s Health Services model, which grew into a sector leader with a range of initiatives in the student healthcare arena including the engagement of clinical psychologists to support and complement the University counselling services and expanding the health services offered to students to include dental, pathology, and practice nurses.
For many years, Mr Prpich also held the role of head of the Operations Crisis Management team, in which he developed response management frameworks and oversaw simulations in partnership with colleagues across the Chief Operating Officer portfolio. Over the years, he developed an exceptional reputation for his ability to deal sympathetically and empathetically with students experiencing crisis situations or tragic incidents. Mr Prpich was pivotal to the University’s COVID-19 response and other major incidents. He oversaw the implementation of student support services during the pandemic, including the provision of food support for international students unable to support themselves.
Mr Prpich worked tirelessly to make our campuses safer and more inclusive for all students and staff. He established the Safer Community Unit and Respectful Communities, and supported transparency in the prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence at the university through the establishment of the Respect at Monash Committee in 2017. He also oversaw the development and expansion of Disability Support Services to support students with disabilities or ongoing medical or health conditions. He played an instrumental role in developing compulsory training modules in support of student safety and wellbeing.
Additionally, Mr Prpich worked closely with multi-faith groups to support religious initiatives and the coordination of the multifaceted Religious Centre. As Executive Director, CCD, he also oversaw Monash Sport and led the expansion and redevelopment of sports infrastructure at each of our campuses.
