Engineering graduate Peter Coleman (BE(Civil) 1984) has been appointed Chair of the Australian Government’s Australia-Korea Foundation (AKF).

The AKF was established by the Australian Government in 1992 to promote bilateral relations between Korea and Australia including encouraging the study of the Korean language by Australians and showcasing Australian excellence and innovation in Korea.

The appointment comes as the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement enters into force and New Colombo Plan students arrive in Korea.

Mr Coleman has been the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Woodside, Australia's largest publicly traded oil and gas exploration and production company since 2011.

Prior to this he had a 27-year career with the ExxonMobil group where he had responsibility for oil and gas developments around the world.

In his new role with the AKF, Mr Coleman will draw on his extensive business links and impressive academic, sporting and cultural connections to promote opportunities for Australians in Korea, and encourage further engagement in the arts, sports, science and media.

Mr Coleman received a Monash University Distinguished Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013. He will serve with the AKF until 2019.
