Monash University congratulates its alumni, staff and supporters who were honoured in the 2015 Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Distinguished Professor Judith Clements AC (PhD Med 1991) whose research focuses on prostate and ovarian cancers was awarded a Companion of the Order of Australia for her contribution to the biological sciences and education.

Prominent lawyer and judge in the Supreme Court of Victoria, the Honourable Justice Lex Lasry AM (BJuris 1970, LLB 1972) was made a Member of the Order of Australia for his significant service to the law particularly for his pro bono advocacy and contribution to the judiciary.

Vice-Chancellor's Professorial Fellow Professor Helen Silver AO (BEc (Hons) 1980, MEc 1988) was honoured by being made an Officer in the Order of Australia for her service to public administration, business and commerce, and the community of Victoria.

Fellow Monash community members Dr Catherine Crock AM, Emeritus Professor Terence Carney AO, Mr Steven Barling AFSM, and Mr Peter Scanlon AO have also been recognised for their extraordinary contributions to Australian communities in the 2015 Honours List.

Alumna Dr Catherine Crock AM (MBBS 1981) was made a Member of the Order of Australia for her contribution to improving community healthcare standards and recognising the important role the arts can play in health.

Legal and social welfare expert, Emeritus Professor Terence Carney AO (PhD Law 1980) was awarded with an Officer in the Order of Australia for his work as an academic, researcher and author.

Monash alumnus and staff member Mr Steven Barling AFSM (DipBus(GenAdmin) 1990) received the Australian Fire Service Medal in recognition of his 27 years of service to the Country Fire Authority.

Monash supporter Mr Peter Scanlon AO was made Officer in the Order of Australia honours for his service to the community through his leadership and philanthropic contributions. 

Queen's Birthday Honours recipients also included:

• Alumna Ms Diane Gardiner AM (BA 1972) who was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for "significant service to public administration, particularly in the heritage preservation and historical museum sectors, and to education".

• Former Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow Hugh Niall AO who was made an Officer in the Order of Australia “for distinguished service to biomedical science, particularly in the field of hormone sequencing, to higher education and research commercialisation initiatives, and to student development programs”.

• Monash staff member Dr Bulent Dellal AO who was awarded with an Officer in the Order of Australia “for distinguished service to the multicultural community through leadership and advisory roles, to the advancement of inclusiveness and social harmony, to youth, and to the broadcast media."

•Alumna Mrs Helen Worladge OAM (MEdSt 1987) who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia “for service to education, and to disadvantaged youth”.

•Alumna and former staff member Dr Gwendolyne McKenzie OAM (MEnvSc 1979, PhD Arts 1990) who was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia “for service to science, particularly as a researcher”.
