NY alumni back on campus to share their knowledge
New York based Monash alumni, Dimitra Manis and Nick Stone, visited Caulfield campus last month to speak to students from the Monash Business School on the topics of leadership and entrepreneurship. They shared their experiences of living and working in one of the world's most influential cities.
Dimitra's career has taken her from Melbourne to Paris and now New York where she is currently Senior Vice President, Global Talent for Estee Lauder Companies. Along the way she has worked for global brands such as Nike, AXA and Thomson Reuters. She spoke to a group of Master of Business Administration students about what makes an effective leader along and led a Q&A session.
Nick Stone took a less direct route to New York, playing six years in the AFL before moving into banking with UBS and ANZ. While furthering his studies in New York, Nick was tasked with pitching a business idea. He decided on bringing a bit of the famous Melbourne coffee culture to the Big Apple and so Bluestone Lane Coffee was born. Bluestone now has 12 locations across New York and Philadelphia with a San Francisco store on the way. Nick spoke to Monash Business School undergraduates about his experience as an Australian entrepreneur in New York.
Dimitra and Nick's visits are perfect examples of how alumni can inspire the next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs by sharing their experiences and knowledge with current Monash students.
