Circular Economy
A circular economy is a regenerative framework that designs out waste, extends material use, recovers resources, and restores natural systems. It is restorative and regenerative by design, and is a systemic response to the challenges of resource scarcity, climate change and urbanisation.
At Monash, we embed these principles to build long-term resilience, create environmental value, and drive innovation.
Monash’s Circular Economy Principles
Monash’s Circular Economy Framework is based on the four circular economy principles:
- Designing out waste — Minimising waste across the entire lifecycle.
- Slowing the loop — Extending the lifespan of products and materials.
- Closing the loop — Recovering resources and improving recycling outcomes.
- Regenerating nature — Restoring ecosystems and supporting natural systems.
Monash's Circular Economy 5 key pillars
Waste transformation, Regenerating nature, Circular buildings, Responsible procurement, and Transport.
