Congratulations on receiving an offer to study Law at Monash and welcome to the Faculty!

Course information

The information on this page is designed to assist you with planning your course and enrolling into units (Steps 2 and 3 of Get Started).

Depending on whether you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student will change how you select your units in which to enrol. To find your appropriate course map use the following links: Course Maps

How to enrol

In order to accept your offer to study at Monash you must enrol into units. All students enrol using the Web Enrolment System (WES).

If you are a domestic student, you need to enrol by the offer lapse date in your offer letter.

If you are an international student, you need to enrol by the enrolment date stated in your offer letter.

Enrolment for your course

Useful information

The timetable for postgraduate students works a bit differently than for undergraduate students. Students taking core JD units*, will have to select preferences (using Allocate+) for specific streams in the upcoming trimester. The Allocate+ dates for each trimester are published on the postgraduate timetable page. If a student misses the preference entry window, they will be automatically allocated based on availability. Any requests to adjust streams must occur during the preference adjustment window.
*Core JD units are LAW5000, LAW5001, LAW5002, LAW5003, LAW5004, LAW5005, LAW5006, LAW5007, LAW5008, LAW5010, LAW5011, LAW5012, LAW5013, LAW5014, LAW5015 and LAW5018.
All other postgraduate law units only have one stream per unit, students must still select the stream in Allocate+, but there is no preference entry period or options for varying streams. The dates for these postgraduate law units are published on the relevant timetable page in September for the entire upcoming year.
You can defer a course offer for up to a maximum of one year from the original teaching period intake listed on your course offer letter.
To defer your course offer, complete the deferment application form and submit it via an online enquiry.
If you have already accepted your course offer and enrolled into units, it is still possible to defer the offer as long as withdraw from all units and lodge the request before the first withdrawn early end date for enrolled units in your course. You can withdraw from units using the Web Enrolment System (WES) or by sending us an enrolment amendment form. You must withdraw from units in WES or send us the request to withdraw before the first withdrawn early end date for your first unit. If you discontinue a unit, there are important dates to keep in mind that will determine academic and financial penalties.
For undergraduate law students studying standard semester units, please refer to the census dates page.
For postgraduate law students, from 2025, all non-standard unit dates are published by the central university on one web page. You can find the Postgraduate Law and Juris Doctor units by using the search function on the new webpage linked below:

These orientation dates are tentative, confirmed dates and times will be sent out to JD students approximately a month before the start of each intake.
Trimester one 2025: Tuesday, 17 December 2024
Trimester two 2025:  Wednesday, 23 April 2025
Trimester three 2025:  Tuesday, 19 August 2025
Course start dates
Trimester one 2025:  Monday, 6 January 2025
Trimester two 2025:  Monday, 28 April 2025
Trimester three 2025: Monday, 25 August 2025
