Information for new Law students
Congratulations on receiving an offer to study Law at Monash and welcome to the Faculty!
The information on this page is designed to assist you with planning your course and enrolling into units (Steps 2 and 3 of Get Started).
Depending on whether you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student will change how you select your units in which to enrol. To find your appropriate course map use the following links:
You can also read about your course requirements in detail in the handbook.
Enrol in your course - What type of student are you?
You can defer a course offer for up to a maximum of one year from the original teaching period intake listed on your course offer letter.
If you have already accepted your course offer and enrolled into units, it is still possible to defer the offer as long as withdraw from all units and lodge the request before the first withdrawn early end date for enrolled units in your course. You can withdraw from units using the Web Enrolment System (WES) or by sending us an enrolment amendment form. You must withdraw from units in WES or send us the request to withdraw before the first withdrawn early end date for your first unit. See discontinuation dates for undergraduate students and discontinuation dates for postgraduate Law students .
For more information on deferment, please refer to the defer your offer page.
If you discontinue a unit, there are important dates to keep in mind that will determine academic and financial penalties.
For undergraduate law students studying standard semester units, please refer to the census dates page.
For postgraduate law students, the central census dates do not apply. This is because the postgraduate law units are taught on separate non-standard schedules. It is important that you refer to the Faculty of Law postgraduate unit discontinuation dates page for the relevant discontinuation dates.
These orientation dates are tentative, confirmed dates and times will be sent out to JD students approximately a month before the start of each intake.

Commonwealth Supported Places (CSP)
CSP are awarded to top-performing applicants through a competitive selection process based on academic merit. The exact requirements for a CSP depends on the pool of applicants for that intake period. It is important to note that JD CSP offers cannot be deferred. If an applicant with a JD CSP offer wants to defer, their offer will revert to a domestic full fee place before it can be deferred.
There is a CSP specific application deadline for each intake. All academic transcripts from all prior university study must have been provided by the CSP application deadline in order to be considered for a CSP in that intake. The CSP deadlines are listed here.
You can browse the Monash scholarships page to identify potential scholarships to apply for.
If you click on the 'Browse by:' drop down menu and select 'Law', you will bring up scholarships specifically relevant to the Faculty of Law.
There are four scholarships specifically administered by the Faculty of Law, these are:
