I have the the dream job for a design graduate: I’m a Design Engineer at Dyson. My job has so many creative aspects. I think up new products and evaluate and improve existing products, creating prototypes from a variety of digital and physical processes. Sometimes I work on my own, other times, I work in groups or in consultation with specialists in particular areas. Our concepts don’t always work perfectly the first time, but in the design process, even failure is a step forward.
The format of my Monash degree was similar to the work environment, with a focus on project outcomes and deadlines and using all the skills you’d learnt. In my job, you have to demonstrate skills and the ability to apply them – Monash gave me the tools to do that.
