Make Innovative: Queer Indie Games
Queer representation is crucial in mainstream media just as it is important in independent media, where the development is often at the edge of the neo avant-garde. Independent games are often self-published and self-funded, and as a result they are highly innovative, risk-taking, and face what the mainstream media dare not. Through the stories, game narratives, and experiences, we will present a curated collection of queer indie games, discuss how these games have gone beyond just representation, and invite you to explore them with heart.
Presenters
Xavier Ho is a creative technologist and visualisation designer at the XYX Lab. His research focus is design-led, inquiring in queer studies, specifically in game studies and design research methodologies. Xavier is passionate about LGBT+ equality and he practices barebow archery with his boyfriend.
Remedios Perez Escobar is a Strategist Designer with a background in social innovation and corporate problem-solving. Through her applied design thinking work, she actively seeks to understand motivations that drive a need. She approaches problems and solves them with art, in any of its forms.

She specialises in UXUI design and is interested in learning about research and data visualisation at a deeper level. She has deep appreciation for video games and the ways players interact with them and how they present experiences. Natalie also has passion for illustration and enjoys drawing and posting art online in her spare time.
