Re-School - Indigenising and Decolonising

04/20/2023 02:00 pm 04/20/2023 05:00 pm Australia/Melbourne Re-School - Indigenising and Decolonising

We believe that architectural education needs to respond to the challenges of our times and prepare for increasingly precarious and transforming futures.

This involves positioning ourselves as educators and learners to act effectively and develop approaches that address broad structural and global problems of climate change, social inequality and scarcity of resources, working collaboratively to engage in open dialogue on what future pedagogies might look like.

Re-School is envisaged as a 'call to action', providing a platform for students to be active and critical learners who engage in dialogue around themes and challenges. Students will be participating with invited speakers, experts and facilitators to consider four challenges in architectural education:

  • Indigenising and decolonising
  • Making and building
  • Educating for climate action
  • Expanding the profession

In synergy with the four missions, Re-School is hosting four workshops across the year.

Each workshop will be hosted by a guest external to Monash Architecture and will be directed toward a specific cohort of students across the Department. Each Re-School workshop will capture its outcomes, and this material will form the content for a new Monash Architecture 'manifesto' to be launched in 2024.

This workshop is for Monash Architecture students.
