About us

At Monash Art Projects (MAP), our vision is to critically and poetically reimagine how public art can shift our experience of urban space. We aim to connect our diverse community of artists, architects, designers, thinkers and makers to public art opportunities.

Alongside the development and production of permanent, temporary and propositional public art projects, we teach, produce exhibitions, collaborate with university partners on conferences, and consult with industry and government on developing new models for public art strategies.

MAP supports and collaborates with artists to realise projects of all different scales, budgets and timescales. From small objects, temporary events, consulting and curating, to large permanent sculpture, we work closely with artists through all stages of delivery.

Most commonly we will manage a project from start to finish, offering support through concept development, design and visualisation, contract negotiation, budgeting, technical support through fabrication, commissioner and client communication.

Public art is an inherently collaborative field. We aim to build connections between different disciplines, artists, and other professionals (for example, architects, engineers, landscape architects, fabricators, community groups, landcare groups and ornithologists), as well as connecting with different labs across Monash Art, Design and Architecture, such as Wominjeka Djeembana and SensiLab.

Through our teaching, we connect with the Department of Fine Art and the Department of Architecture. In the studios we run, we ask the students to question the role that public art can play, socially, politically, and economically within a greater urban context.

We encourage enquiries for future projects and collaborations.
