In Through The Out Door

Permanent public artworks embellishing laneway doors in Sydney CBD

In Through the Out Door is a series of three reimagined exit doorways in two central Sydney laneways. Inspired by specific visual and spatial moments encountered while walking through Sydney, the artist plays with the unconscious life of passers-by, teasing out their memories of the city fabric.

The colours and patterns expressed here reinterpret multiple places, including, among others, the Victorian floor tiles of the QV Building, the Sol Lewitt mural in the foyer of Harry Seidler’s Australia Square and various parts of Luna Park. These otherwise iconic patterns and colours are reframed inside the intimacy offered by the laneways, becoming portals into unknown worlds.
