Gabi Briggs
Exploring the Significance of Aboriginal Women Walking on Country
Gabi’s research is focused on undertaking and remembering a 80-100 kilometre walk from Ingelbah Aboriginal Reserve to the Armidale Showground. The research is an extension of her grandmother Patsy Cohen’s work in her text Ingelba & the Five Black Matriarchs. The project aims to shed light on the complexities of land ownership, recovering of Anaiwan knowledge and sovereign Indigenous access in so-called Australia through an investigation of the correlation between settler colonialism and violence against Indigenous women, to provocate who cares about Aboriginal women.
