Monash University’s Department of Psychiatry – Central Clinical School was established in 2019. It evolved out of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc) based which was established at Alfred Health in 2002. The Department is responsible for delivering all mental health content within the medical degree at Monash University and coordinates clinical placements for 4th and 5th year medical students. Psychiatry – Central is led by Head of Department (HOD) Professor Jayashri Kulkarni who also directs MAPrc. Deputy HOD Dr Shalini Arunogiri, who was appointed in 2020, heads the Addiction Psychiatry group. Psychiatry – Central has clinical research groups based across Alfred Health (MAPrc), Epworth Health (ECIMH), Peninsula Health (Peninsula Therapeutic & Research group), and Cabrini Hospital.
