About us

Monash University’s Department of Psychiatry – School of Translational Medicine (formerly the Central Clinical School) was established in 2019. It evolved out of the Monash Alfred Psychiatry research centre (MAPrc), which was established at Alfred Health in 2002, and has since also welcomed the establishment of HER Centre Australia in 2022.

Under the leadership of Department Head, Professor Jayashri Kulkarni AM, the Department of Psychiatry (STM) is responsible for delivering all mental health content within the medical degree at Monash University and coordinates clinical placements for 4^th and 5^th year medical students, and has clinical research groups based at Alfred Health (MAPrc), Peninsula Health (Peninsula Therapeutic & Research group), and Cabrini Hospital.
