Increasing bone health awareness to prevent fracture and falls in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

Increasing bone health awareness to prevent fracture and falls in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities

The challenge

Chronic bone health conditions like osteoporosis develop earlier in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, increasing risks of fractures, falls and premature death. This co-developed study is increasing awareness and upskilling Aboriginal healthcare practitioners within Community Controlled Organisations to encourage people to connect with their GPs.

Our impact

  • Increasing bone and osteoporosis knowledge in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to prevent fracture and falls.
  • Co-designed health education and materials designed for health care providers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with potential to scale nationally.
  • Capacity building of Aboriginal healthcare practitioners.
