Alcohol and Other Drug research in the Frankston Mornington Peninsula: recent findings and identifying future priorities
The Monash Addiction Research Centre (MARC), together with Peninsula Health and the National Centre for Healthy Ageing (NCHA), hosted an Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) Research forum at the Ngarnga Centre on Tuesday, 15 November. The event showcased collaborative research projects undertaken by MARC and its partners, and brought together researchers, local AOD services providers, people with lived experience, local government and educators.
Presentations included, ‘Mapping the Alcohol and Other Drug patient journey to improve treatment access and engagement in care’; ‘Enhancing Pharmacist Involvement in Care in Medically Assisted Treatment for Opioid Dependence’; ‘Hospo drinking cultures’; and ‘The utility of ambulance data in identifying new and emerging AOD harms’.
Presentations were followed by a facilitated discussion exploring local AOD research needs to inform research planning. The discussion generated some great ideas and ways in which MARC, Peninsula Health and the NCHA can work with other local stakeholders to undertake translational research that helps respond to the challenges faced by local service providers or people with AOD concerns.
