About us

Evidence synthesis vitally underpins healthcare decision making. It comprises the science of systematic reviews (the identification, collation, appraisal and synthesis of all existing research related to a specific research question) and the science of meta-analysis (the statistical synthesis of results across studies). We have led and contributed to major developments and understanding in evidence synthesis methods, including developing reporting guidelines for systematic reviews (PRISMA 2020, PRIOR, SWiM, and extensions to PRISMA 2020), risk of bias tools (ROB-ME, RoB 2), methods for synthesis when meta-analysis is not possible, methods for meta-analysing results from interrupted time series studies, and methods for overviews of systematic reviews. We have also examined reproducibility in systematic reviews and bias in the review process. We build capacity to undertake methods research in evidence synthesis, regularly provide training in evidence synthesis methods (nationally and internationally), and collaborate on systematic reviews of health research.
