Clinical Quality Indicators for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
A collaborative project with Monash University's School of Clinical Sciences involving a two-phase modified Delphi protocol to develop national consensus on clinical quality indicators for primary and secondary cardiovascular disease prevention in primary care settings in Australia.
Aim
To develop a nationally agreed set of clinical quality indicators (CQIs) for the prevention and management of cardiovascular disease in Australia, encompassing both primary prevention (reducing risk before disease onset) and secondary prevention (management of established disease). These indicators will be designed for use across primary care and broader healthcare settings to support quality improvement, benchmarking, and national monitoring of cardiovascular care.
Rationale
Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of illness and death in Australia, yet care is not always consistent across different settings. There is currently no single national set of measures to track and improve the quality of prevention and care.
By bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, policymakers, and people with lived experience, this project will identify practical, evidence-based measures that can be used across the health system. These indicators will help identify gaps in care, support better decision-making, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients.
