Spleen Australia
Spleen Australia, based at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, is a clinical service dedicated to supporting individuals living without a functioning spleen who are at increased risk of severe bacterial infections. Established in 2003, the program is funded by the states of Victoria, Tasmania, Queensland, and Western Australia.
Our primary goal is to reduce the risk of overwhelming post-splenectomy infections through education, immunisation, and preventative antibiotic strategies. Our medical recommendations are available on the Spleen Australia website , and additional information and support can be accessed through our team of immunisation nurses or online.
