Genuine student requirement
If you’re an international student applying for a student visa on or after 23 March 2024, Monash is obligated to check that you're a genuine applicant for entry into Australia on a student visa (in addition to assessing your application against Monash’s entry requirements). To be a genuine applicant, your application needs to show that you’re staying in Australia as a student, and you understand that studying in Australia is the primary reason for your student visa application.
If we believe you’re not a genuine applicant for entry – as defined by the Department of Home Affairs’ genuine student requirement for student visa applications – we may:
- refuse to assess your application to study at Monash
- withdraw an offer of a place, or
- cancel your confirmation of enrolment.
Monash also reserves the right to request additional information and conduct a face-to-face interview in relation to a genuine student check.
