I chose Monash Fine Art because of the academic and studio staff on offer.
I’d been following the practice of quite a few of the staff from Kathy Temin and Callum Morton to Brook Andrew, so to have the opportunity to be mentored by some of Australia’s best contemporary artists was a strong incentive.Monash offered me a great platform into the diverse contemporary art industry through networking opportunities and support that extended past the classroom.
From the connections I made through the academic staff, I was able to gain priceless internship opportunities in well-known galleries in Melbourne, as well as exhibit my own work alongside other fantastic artists nationally.
The gallery I work at as an Art Consultant operates from both the U.K. and Australia, where I will act as a conduit between both countries, selling, acquiring and distributing the works of the represented artists.”
The role is remote which means I will still have the chance to keep up my own practice, and potentially undertake my Masters studies in the U.K.
The connections I made and fostered during my undergraduate studies have led to various career opportunities presenting themselves to me.
Being part of student-run projects and initiatives also allowed me to take on greater challenges, both artistically and academically.
It’s likely that you will end up doing something in complete contrast to what you originally expected; the unexpected is exciting! Apply for everything, Monash has fantastic opportunities and the practical experience will stand out on your resume.
